HliAT #13: Bikin' 2 Yoga

***EVERYBODY: BIKE CAUTIOUS. BIKE CAREFUL. I GOT FREAKIN' BACKED UP INTO BY A DRIVER IN AN AUDI ON HER PHONE TH'OTHER DAY. BIKE CAUTIOUS. BIKE CAREFUL.***

How Long It Actually Takes To...

get from my house at the intersection of Barrington and Chenault to the Yogaworks on Montana, in Santa Monica; early enough in the morning that there were (truly. literally. please see note, above) no cars on the streets, so you can really sort of zoom it: 10:13.20

Not to hammer the theme, but the theme is good, and the takeaway on this one IS the theme. That being: Google Maps, which is let's-be-honest kind of a slowpoke low estimator, puts this bike ride at 12 minutes. That seems about right; I budget 15 in my head from my house. Point being: I did this very early. There were truly no cars around. But lesson to self / anyone reading: the expected value equation on biking to yoga looks like

P(accident) * Harm(accident) +
[1 - P(accident)] * Value(yoga, whenevs you arrive)
HOLY $H!T ARE YOU CRAZY JUST BIKE SAFE IT'S NOT WORTH IT DO NOT INCREASE P(ACCIDENT) JUST MAKE P(ACCIDENT) AS CLOSE TO ZERO AS POSSIBLE THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS IN THIS SITUATION ARE YOU CRAZY SERIOUSLY JUST. BE. SAFE.

Anyway, yeah -- that's what I learned from this one.
